Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)–ILO cooperation

The signing of the action plan between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in November 2024 marked a transformative step in regional labor governance, now having completed its first year of successful implementation. This strategic framework aims to address complex labor market challenges through a unified approach to skills development and the rapid digitalization of employment services. A cornerstone of this cooperation is the unwavering support for the State of Palestine, facilitated through enhanced development programs and emergency response initiatives aimed at sustaining livelihoods and institutional stability. In 2025, the partnership will further strengthen its commitment by participating in the South4Care event in Doha, focusing on collaborative efforts to enhance skills development across the region. By prioritizing transparent information sharing and policy alignment, the GCC and ILO are effectively bridging technological gaps and promoting decent work, ensuring that the region’s economic growth remains both inclusive and sustainable. Overall, the collaboration emphasizes digitalization, skills development, and ongoing support for the State of Palestine, solidifying the partnership’s importance in addressing contemporary labor challenges in the region.
