The International Labour Organization Joins the 8th International Meeting on Triangular Cooperation in Lisbon

Lisbon, October 3, 2024 – The International Labour Organization (ILO) has confirmed its participation in the 8th International Meeting on Triangular Cooperation: Linking Global Processes to Create Local Impact, scheduled for October 7-8, 2024 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal.

This annual meeting, which will bring together global leaders, development agencies, and multilateral organizations, focuses on harnessing the potential of triangular cooperation to address critical development challenges. As the ILO continues to promote decent work and social justice worldwide, its engagement in this event underscores its commitment to innovative collaboration approaches that foster  inclusive development.

Anita Amorim, Head of Emerging and South-South and Triangular Partnerships Unit at the ILO, will participate in the Systems Track session, discussing working across different organizational cultures in triangular partnerships. The ILO’s participation will highlight its efforts in leveraging partnerships to promote fair labour practices and foster social inclusion, as well as promote South-South and triangular cooperation in all regions.

The two-day meeting will include key sessions such as plenary discussions on global processes boosting triangular cooperation, strategies for the future of triangular cooperation in the G20, and insights into triangular cooperation’s role post-2030. The ILO will be instrumental in sharing its expertise on how triangular cooperation can address pressing issues such as poverty reduction and inequality through collaborative and locally led partnerships.

This year’s meeting holds special significance as triangular cooperation continues to play a pivotal role in global development frameworks, including the **G20 Development Working Group under the Brazilian Presidency and preparations for future global events such as COP29 and the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) in 2025.

On the fringes of this first day, Mrs Anita Amorim held talks with Mrs Ama Brandford-Arthur of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Mr Wofsi Yuri Guimarães de Souza of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC). Discussions centred on the need to strengthen partnerships in the face of major development challenges, based on trilateral cooperation following Brazil’s presidency of the G20.
