South-South and triangular cooperation good practices in the World of Work in a changing multilateral environment: Asia & Pacific Region

The Asia–Pacific region advanced two complementary South-South and triangular cooperation initiatives that strengthened climate-responsive labour market governance and promoted job-rich recovery across diverse country contexts. Through its Pacific SIDS collaboration, the ILO and national partners in Tonga, Vanuatu and neighbouring islands built new capacity to measure how climate shocks affected employment, developed climate-integrated labour statistics tools, and created a shared platform for peer learning among statisticians, policymakers and researchers. In parallel, the inter-regional EIIP Technical Forum brought together officials and social partners from Asia-Pacific and the Arab States to exchange practical experiences on employment-intensive approaches for crisis response, green infrastructure and resilience building, resulting in new action plans, cross-country partnerships and commitments to embed EIIP methods into national public works and climate adaptation strategies. Together, these initiatives demonstrated how countries facing climate and crisis pressures used South-South cooperation to generate evidence, strengthen institutions and design more inclusive, employment-centred policies.
