The sessions of the VI World Forum of Local Economic Development concluded yesterday, April 3rd, with the reading of a final declaration reaffirming the global commitment to fair, inclusive, and sustainable territorial development.
Throughout this dynamic forum, policymakers, experts, and practitioners came together to discuss critical themes, including:
- Transforming development financing to strengthen local public policies.
- Promoting public-private partnerships and decentralized models for territorial sustainability.
- Integrating care and social justice into economic models and local development strategies.
The ILO proudly contributed to this important global dialogue, organizing dedicated panels and actively participating in sessions that explored how decent work, social protection, and social dialogue can drive inclusive and sustainable development. Our experts shared insights on building fairer economies and empowering local actors to address the challenges of climate change, digital transformation, and demographic shifts.
This forum also paved the way for new strategies and commitments that will inform upcoming multilateral processes, such as the Second World Social Summit in Doha and the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville.
The VI World Forum was a powerful reminder that local action is key to advancing social justice and achieving real transformation. By aligning efforts across all levels of governance and fostering multilevel partnerships, we can work towards a future that centers on care, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
We thank all participants, partners, and organizations for their invaluable contributions to this global conversation. Together, we are shaping a better future for territories worldwide.
