South-South Skills V-Forum: 21-22 April 2021

Presentations on SSTC and modelisation of labour markets

The ILO SKILLS Branch in Geneva, the regional office for Africa, the Partnerships and Field Support Department (PARDEV) and the International Training Centre (ITC) joined forces to promote South-South and triangular cooperation (SSTC) on skills development in Africa and beyond. The SSTC Skills Forum was launched in December 2020 with a technical webinar.

The next step will be the organization of the SSTC Skills Virtual Fair on 21-22 April 2021, a knowledge-building and knowledge-sharing event in a format that will allow participants to engage with top-notch experts and network with peers around topics of interest. Tripartite constituents from 34 countries from the Global South are invited to participate. The 2-day SSTC Skills AR Technology fair will have thematic rooms on:

  • Quality apprenticeships
  • Skills need anticipation
  • Digital skills & digital transformation.

The Virtual Fair aims to build capacity of tripartite constituents on skills development and to support South-South and triangular cooperation by:

  • Strengthening partnerships,
  • Promoting the exchange of experiences,
  • Encouraging the pooling of technical and other resources
  • Supporting the identification and establishment of potential partnerships among participating countries and institutions.

In March 2021, three thematic discussions took place regarding Apprenticeships, Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification, and Skills for the Digital Economy. Participants were invited to present good practices responding to development challenges, engaging in an exercise of identifying gaps, matching key solutions, and identifying potential partnerships among themselves.
