The ILO participated in the G20 Development Working Group meeting in Salvador, where key agenda topics included trilateral cooperation, a call to action on WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and initiatives to combat inequality. The Brazilian presidency is strongly advocating for a global agenda to combat hunger. The Development Working Group is examining the dimensions of work and water and sanitation, as well as the linkages between decent work, inter-generational inequality cycles, unemployment, social protection, and decent work. There is a consensus that decent work is a crucial issue.
Finally, it’s important to note that the Brazilian presidency in the G20 emphasizes the importance of trilateral cooperation to tackle global development challenges, particularly in the Global South. This approach leverages diverse resources and capacities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), creating an inclusive platform for sharing expertise among partners. The initiative focuses on current practices and strategic visions of G20 members, proposing a knowledge-sharing mechanism to improve national systems, manage data, and develop new projects. This effort aims to accelerate SDG progress during the Decade of Action, address data gaps, and foster a new development mindset. Upcoming events and specific workstreams are also outlined to advance trilateral cooperation further.
