The ILO participated in the BRICS Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Network meeting in Sochi, Russia, on 7 October 2026, contributing to exchanges on how digitalization can strengthen national OSH systems and support more effective prevention.
Joaquim Pintado Nunes, Branch Chief of OSH in the ILO, shared practical approaches to digital OSH reporting and interoperable systems, highlighting how information from employers, workers, health professionals and labour inspectorates can be connected to build stronger OSH intelligence. The presentation also explored the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and other digital tools to support risk-based labour inspection and better target preventive action.
The discussion brought together experiences from BRICS and other countries, illustrating how digital solutions can help reduce reporting barriers, improve OSH statistics, identify emerging risks and support more targeted deployment of inspection resources.
The exchange in Sochi provided an opportunity for South-South knowledge sharing on practical approaches to the digital transformation of OSH systems, while strengthening opportunities for continued peer learning and cooperation among BRICS partners and the ILO.
