BRICS Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work: Internal Peer Review Workshop

The International Labour Organization (ILO) convened an internal peer review workshop bringing together experts and offices from across the Organization to validate the findings of the BRICS Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work country studies and the accompanying Analytical Report.

The initiative — launched under the leadership of South Africa’s BRICS Presidency (2023) and reaffirmed during the Russian (2024) and Brazilian (2025) presidencies — reflects a shared commitment among BRICS members to strengthen the linkages between productivity, innovation, and decent work through South–South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC).

The workshop was jointly organized by the ILO PARTNERSHIPS Department and the ILO ENTERPRISES Department, in close collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO) and the ILO field offices in Brasilia, Beijing, and Pretoria. This interdepartmental and inter-office effort exemplifies how ILO’s global network works together to translate research into practical cooperation frameworks.

During the session, national experts presented the three BRICS country studies:

  • Brazil: Dr. Paulo Jacinto
  • South Africa: Dr. Sabelo Gumedze
  • China: presentation by Ms. Yin Manxue on behalf of the national research team

The workshop focused on peer validation of results, discussion of methodological robustness, and identification of policy implications to inform the forthcoming BRICS Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work Platform.

By connecting evidence, policy dialogue, and partnership, this collaborative effort reinforces the ILO’s role in advancing inclusive growth and decent work across the Global South.
