BRICS Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work Country Studies: an analysis from China

🌏 China’s Path to Productivity and Decent Work: A BRICS Case Study

The Chinese Academy of Labour and Social Security (CALSS), in collaboration with the ILO and BRICS partners, presents China: Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work, a landmark study exploring how productivity growth and decent work can advance together.

This country study provides empirical evidence on the strong synchronization between labour productivity and labour earnings in China (2004–2023), revealing how skill-based wage systems, collective bargaining, and innovation-driven policies foster equitable and sustainable economic growth.

It also highlights pioneering practices—from regional wage negotiations to enterprise-level innovation contracts—that demonstrate how “higher skills earn higher pay” can be a reality. The study offers policy insights for BRICS and the Global South, aligning with the principles of South–South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) to build shared prosperity through decent work.
